Orphée Aux Enfers, or Orpheus in the Underworld, is a comic opera written originally in 1858. I chose this piece to design for my MFA thesis during April and May of 2020, at the height of the pandemic in New York City.

My initial source of inspiration was Paris itself during the time it was written. I found myself fascinated by Les Femmes Eccentriques, Touluse Lautrec, and lastly my own artistic expression. In between sirens blaring and constant news reports I escaped into a colorful world full of frivolity and play, the walls of my tiny one bedroom apartment coming alive with ink paintings of sultry can-can dancers.
